Marvell Technology Inc. reported record revenue of $2.739 billion for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, a performance underpinned by an aggressive expansion in artificial intelligence infrastructure demand. Matthew Murphy, chairman and chief executive officer of Marvell, confirmed the company has raised its full-year revenue guidance to approximately $12 billion, marking a 45% year-over-year increase.

The company’s financial trajectory reflects a broader industry pivot toward the specialized hardware required for massive scale-out AI clusters. Data Center revenue reached $2.17 billion during the quarter, representing 18% sequential growth and 46% year-over-year expansion. Management now anticipates this specific segment will grow by 60% for the full fiscal year, surpassing previous internal projections.

Strategic leadership changes accompanied these financial milestones, including the appointment of Dan Durn as chief financial officer. Durn, who previously served on the company’s board of directors, brings three decades of experience in semiconductor finance to the role. Ross Seymore also joined the executive team as the new senior vice president of investor relations, transitioning from a long-tenured career covering the semiconductor industry at Deutsche Bank.

Technical demand remains concentrated in interconnect and switching technologies, which serve as the backbone for modern AI performance. Marvell is witnessing a rapid ramp in its 1.6T optical digital signal processors, while its 51.2T switching products are on track to more than double in revenue this year. These components are essential for the massive, interconnected clusters currently being deployed by hyperscale data center operators.

Operational success in securing supply chains has allowed Marvell to maintain this growth despite pervasive industry-wide constraints. The company is actively managing the complexities of scaling production to meet the requirements of its largest customers. This logistical capability is a primary factor in the firm’s ability to capitalize on the current surge in AI-related capital expenditure.

Broadband analog components, specifically transimpedance amplifiers and drivers, are also seeing demand that exceeds initial expectations. This segment provides a critical layer of support for the high-speed data transmission required in modern AI workloads. The company continues to see these products as essential to maintaining the integrity of data flow within increasingly complex server architectures.

Looking toward fiscal 2028, the company has projected revenue of approximately $18 billion, a significant upward revision from the $16.5 billion forecast provided just three months prior. This outlook suggests that the current wave of investment in AI infrastructure is not merely a short-term spike but a sustained shift in enterprise technology spending. The growth rate for the coming fiscal year is now expected to accelerate to 50% year-over-year.

The significance of these results lies in the broadening application of Marvell’s silicon beyond traditional enterprise networking. As hyperscalers build increasingly larger AI clusters, the reliance on high-speed, low-latency interconnects becomes the primary bottleneck for performance. Marvell has positioned its product portfolio to directly address these specific technical hurdles, effectively becoming a critical supplier for the next generation of computing architecture.

The shift toward custom silicon represents a strategic evolution in how data centers are architected to handle large language models and other compute-intensive tasks. By moving away from off-the-shelf components toward specialized, high-performance designs, operators are seeking to optimize power efficiency and throughput. Marvell’s focus on these custom solutions allows it to capture a larger share of the total value chain within the data center ecosystem.

Industry analysts and investors are now looking toward the upcoming Investor Day in New York City on October 6 for further clarity on long-term drivers. The event is expected to provide a deeper analysis of how the company intends to maintain its momentum as the competitive landscape for AI-specialized hardware intensifies. Future performance will likely depend on the company’s ability to continue scaling its custom silicon business while managing the inherent volatility of the broader semiconductor market.
