In a world where digital finance is rapidly reshaping the global economic landscape, a new initiative is taking shape on the Asia-Pacific horizon, promising to bridge one of the region’s most dynamic trade corridors.

IDA Finance Hong Kong Limited (IDA), Progmat Inc., Datachain, Inc., and TOKI FZCO are joining forces to pioneer a proof of concept (PoC) aimed at revolutionizing the way cross-border trade between Hong Kong and Japan is conducted.

The collaboration, announced on March 20, 2025, is not just a technological venture but a potential paradigm shift in international trade finance.

At its heart lies the use of stablecoins—a type of cryptocurrency designed to maintain a stable value relative to a specific currency or basket of goods—as a tool to enhance remittance efficiency between two of Asia’s economic powerhouses.

This initiative emerges at a time when Hong Kong and Japan are not just economic partners but pivotal nodes in the global blockchain and digital currency ecosystem.

The endeavor is poised to leverage the unique strengths of each partner.

IDA, known for its digital asset prowess, will spearhead monetary management and compliance under Hong Kong’s regulatory framework.

Progmat will roll out its Progmat Coin platform, underpinning stablecoin issuance and management, while Datachain will bring its blockchain expertise to facilitate seamless cross-border exchanges.

TOKI, with its cutting-edge cross-chain infrastructure, will ensure the smooth, secure transfer of digital assets across multiple blockchain networks.

This isn’t just about technology; it’s about fortifying an already robust trade relationship.

Japan was Hong Kong’s fifth-largest trading partner as recently as 2023, and the potential for growth in stablecoin-enabled trade is immense.

The initiative aligns with a broader vision of digital transformation, promising not only efficiency but also enhanced security and transparency in financial transactions.

Sean Lee, Co-Founder of IDA, captures this vision succinctly: “With stablecoins emerging as a viable alternative to traditional remittance methods, the potential for growth in this area is enormous.” This sentiment resonates with the shared commitment of all partners…

As the PoC unfolds, the first practical steps will involve identifying a testing user to initiate a cross-border payment request using stablecoins denominated in Japanese Yen and Hong Kong Dollars.

This pilot phase will be crucial in evaluating the advantages over existing trade routes and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards—an endeavor that underscores the initiative’s balance of innovation and responsibility.

The stakes are high, but so too is the promise of a new dawn in international trade.

This project isn’t just about money crossing borders; it’s about ideas and technologies doing so as well.

As these four companies embark on this journey, the world will be watching closely, eager to see if this partnership can indeed create a more connected, efficient, and transparent global economy.

The New AI Economy Under Abhishek Saxena

Abhishek Saxena’s work at Sentient targets the gap where open-source AI keeps losing: not capability, but economics—and his answer is infrastructure that automatically pays builders, maintainers, and evaluators every time their artifact is used, enforced by smart contracts rather than legal goodwill. By combining cryptographic fingerprinting, on-chain attribution, and grant funding with no equity attached, Sentient is building the coordination layer that would make open-source development financially rational enough to compete with a corporate salary.
