The actor will become the brand’s first man to model its men’s line, marking the next step in the entertainment industry’s rehabilitation of him
Johnny Depp will take part in Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty lingerie line fashion show in November, according to his representatives.
The rumor that Depp will be a featured surprise guest in the fashion show that broadcasts on Amazon Prime Video on November 9 was verified by the US magazine IndieWire after it was initially reported by TMZ.
According to reports, Depp’s involvement will be similar to Cindy Crawford’s attendance in the 2021 Savage X Fenty exhibition. He will take on the position of the brand’s “star” male model for its men’s line, making him the first guy to do so.
Along with supermodel Cara Delevingne and Irina Shayk, actresses Taraji P. Henson, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Winston Duke, and Marsai Martin, as well as musicians Anitta and Burna Boy, he will make an appearance on the program.
Given the claims of domestic abuse against Depp made by his ex-wife Amber Heard and the pop singer herself, Depp’s inclusion in the event was met with outrage from fans on social media.
In March 2021, Depp sued the Sun in the UK for branding him a “wife-beater,” but he lost the case due to libel laws there.
He won the defamation lawsuit he filed in the US against Heard in June 2022, and both compensatory and punitive damages totaled $15 million (£12 million). The court determined that Heard was unable to support claims of domestic abuse. Heard, though, was given $2 million in compensatory damages after she won in one of her three counterclaims against Depp.
Retrial demands have been made by Heard’s attorneys. She is making an appeal of a prior attempt to have the verdict dismissed.
Chris Brown, Rihanna’s ex-boyfriend, brutally attacked her in 2009, according to reports. He entered a guilty plea and was placed on probation for five years.
The most recent example of Depp’s rehabilitation by the entertainment business is his involvement in the Savage X Fenty event. He unexpectedly showed up at the MTV Video Music Awards in August in the role of the Moon Man mascot for the network.
Depp gave one-liners in between commercials while projected above the stage. He said as the yearly ceremony began, “I needed the employment.
In the same month, it was also revealed that Depp will helm a biography of Amedeo Modigliani, an Italian painter.
Since concentrating on Savage X Fenty and the cosmetics line Fenty Beauty, Rihanna has become a verified billionaire.
Her first new music in six years, Lift Me Up, a new song produced for the soundtrack of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, marked her recent comeback to mainstream.
She will perform in the Super Bowl half-time performance in February. Her highly anticipated ninth album has not yet been given a title or release date.
The Guardian has been in touch with Rihanna’s agents for music and fashion for a response.
