Everyone dreams of success, but not everyone follows through on that dream. However, you have the chance to create your own success in your 20s.
What you do during your 20s will set the foundation for how successful you will become in your 40s. That’s a scary thought, right?
Your 20s is a transition period in your life. It’s the time in your life that all of the “firsts” happen.
They are the first words you say, the first time you try something new, the first time you fall in love, the first time you lose your first job, the first time you start a new business, the first time you go on vacation, etc.
It’s important to make the most of your 20s because it’s the beginning of the rest of your life.
1. Do something that inspires you every day
This might sound like the most boring thing ever, but your 20s are the time in your life when you have the most time.
You should make every day a day of discovery. Every day, take the time to see how something in your life is changing and adapt to it.
Do something that inspires you. See how you can make it better and get inspired to keep improving yourself.
It can be anything from painting to listening to music. Find what you can do every day to improve yourself.
2. Don’t fear change
You’ve probably heard this many times before, but that doesn’t make it any less true.
You’re going to make so many changes in your 20s. You’re going to get married, have kids, change jobs, move to a different place, etc.
A lot of the change will come from the relationships in your life. The people that you surround yourself with are going to change a lot.
The people you go to school with, the people you go on vacation with, the people that you live near.
They will change. Don’t fear change.
Don’t get stuck in your 20s because you fear change.
3. You have the power to start something new
If you don’t have an idea for a business, just start one. In your 20s, you have all the time in the world to start a business and you can do it as quickly as you want to.
Don’t let your fear of failure hold you back from creating a new life for yourself. What’s the worst that could happen?
You can fail or you can fail. But either way, it doesn’t matter.
As long as you don’t give up, you can change your life.
4. You are unique
If you ever doubted this fact, just look around at the people in your life.
You might feel like you are the same person like everyone else, but that’s not true.
Everyone is unique. You are unique.
You are amazing. You don’t need to compare yourself to others.
5. Slow down
Your 20s are the best time of your life. You get to experience everything.
Take it slow and enjoy your 20s. This is the time to become who you want to be.
Don’t worry about the future. You can’t do anything about it anyway.
Enjoy your life. Be who you want to be.
Learn new things. Learn new things every day.
6. Surround yourself with people who inspire you.
Surround yourself with people who are positive and who encourage you to be who you want to be.
It’s easy to get caught up in the everyday stresses of life, but don’t forget about what you’re here to do: change your life.
Learn more about yourself and the world around you.
Surround yourself with people who make you want to be better.
7. Take risks
One of the best things you can do in your 20s is taking risks.
Don’t be afraid to fail. Don’t be afraid to do something that you never thought you’d be able to do.
I promise you can do it. Everything happens for a reason.
The worst thing that can happen is that you don’t succeed.
Let’s say that your ultimate goal is to go to law school.
After you get your Bachelor’s degree, your friend tells you that she went to a local law school and was interested in a job there.
You always dreamed of going to law school, but you didn’t think that it was even possible for you.
Would you take that chance and go to that school? That’s right, of course, you would.
You wouldn’t miss the opportunity to pursue your dream.
Take risks and do things that you never thought you’d do. You’ll never know if you don’t try.
8. Be a change-maker
Your life can change drastically in your 20s.
Every single day, you have the ability to make a change.
One of my favorite quotes is from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: “The danger of a single story is that it is a story you like to tell yourself.”
The only reason people accept and support a system that harms and exploits people is that they accept and support it.
Don’t accept it. Make change happen. If you don’t, who will?
If you don’t make change happen, you don’t have to worry.
You are already changing the world.
