In the fast-paced world of customer data platforms, one San Francisco-based startup is making waves with a fresh infusion of capital and a hefty valuation to boot.

Hightouch, a data activation platform for marketing and sales teams, has recently secured an impressive $80 million in Series C funding.

This financial boost, led by Sapphire Ventures, catapults Hightouch into the elite league of unicorns with a valuation of $1.2 billion.

The company is not just playing the game; it’s changing the rules.

Hightouch’s approach to data is as refreshing as it is innovative.

Founded by the dynamic trio of Tejas Manohar, Josh Curl, and Kashish Gupta, the startup leverages existing company data and AI to supercharge marketing and sales efforts.

This isn’t just about collecting data—it’s about making it actionable and impactful.

By integrating with over 250 tools, including heavyweights like Databricks, Hightouch transforms raw data into a powerhouse of insights that can be wielded by marketers to craft personalized campaigns and enhance customer service.

“CDP is all about putting all of that data in the hands of marketing teams so they can understand their customers better and execute on their marketing ideas,” cofounder and co-CEO Tejas Manohar explained.

It’s a simple yet profound idea that is resonating with major players like PetSmart, Spotify, and Grammarly, who have all jumped on board.

But Hightouch isn’t just about following trends; it’s about setting them.

In the summer of 2024, the company unveiled its AI decision-making product—a game-changer in the realm of customer interaction.

This sophisticated tool automates and personalizes communication, ensuring that messages aren’t just blasted out en masse, but are instead carefully curated to meet the unique needs and preferences of each customer.

“If you think about how many emails and text messages you get, it’s like a hundred a day,” cofounder Kashish Gupta noted.

“So each CMO is thinking, ‘How can I send only the most relevant message instead of spamming my customers?”‘

It’s a question that Hightouch is answering with aplomb, and it’s resonating across industries.

Take PetSmart, for example.

The company uses Hightouch’s platforms to fine-tune its outreach to the 70 million members of its Treats Rewards loyalty program.

Whether it’s a personalized email or a message on a receipt, Hightouch ensures that each communication is not just a touchpoint, but an opportunity to build a deeper connection.

Bradley Breuer, a vice president of marketing at PetSmart, praised Hightouch for its ability to execute campaigns autonomously and at scale—no small feat in today’s competitive market.

Hightouch’s journey is set against the backdrop of an “incredibly and intensely competitive” customer data platform space, as noted by Rajeev Dham, a partner at Sapphire Ventures.

Competing with giants like Salesforce and Twilio, Hightouch has carved out a niche by focusing on the holy grail of marketing: targeting the right customer at the right time.

With Dham joining Hightouch’s board, the company is poised to continue its upward trajectory.

As Hightouch continues to innovate and expand, it’s clear that this is more than just a story about funding rounds and valuations.

It’s a story about how a small team with a big vision can transform the way businesses interact with their customers, one data point at a time.

With its eyes set firmly on the future, Hightouch is a unicorn that’s not just dreaming, but doing.
