This led him to design a custom solution using CircuitPython firmware for MakerDiary’s nRF52840 micro development kit, resulting in a few-kilobyte storage device that only unlocks when its owner’s Bluetooth device is nearby.

The ingenuity of the PECKUS lies in its simplicity and effectiveness.

During the setup process, users pair the device with a specific Bluetooth device and store a keyfile, which becomes read-only.

This means the file cannot be altered, enhancing its security.

When the time comes to access the stored data, the user must ensure their previously paired Bluetooth device is within range, and a manual button press on the board is required before the device becomes visible to a computer.

This presence-sensing mechanism ensures that the stored data can only be accessed by its rightful owner, adding an extra layer of physical security.
