According to its developers, this shift reduces Ethereum’s energy consumption by an astounding 99.9%. In an industry frequently criticized for its colossal energy demands – particularly Bitcoin’s Proof-of-Work model – “The Merge” positions Ethereum as a significantly more “environmentally friendly” blockchain.

Beyond its green credentials, the update is also touted to make transactions cheaper and the network more scalable.

Proponents of Ethereum are quick to highlight how “The Merge” not only addresses a critical environmental concern but also strategically strengthens its competitive edge against rivals, particularly Bitcoin.
