A drawing is one of the most basic art forms, making it very popular for creating illustrations. Creating a drawing means picking an area that you want to focus your attention on and developing the rest of the image using other styles or techniques.
In this article I will be going over some easy steps to learn how to make a digital drawing. You will start by choosing an interesting area to work with, then use different textures and colors to develop the illustration.
After completing these lessons you will know how to draw a variety of animals (dogs, cats, horses, etc.) as well as landscapes and city scenes. When designing your picture, try to include at least part of each element described in this lesson so that people can recognize them!
If you are already familiar with Photoshop then changing the texture and color of an object is easy to do. For more advanced users, transforming and layering textures is another way to add detail to your artwork.

A drawing is not very interesting if you do not use references, so it is important to find suitable images or illustrations that you can incorporate into your designs. You could take some inspiration from their composition, colors, shapes, etc., but no matter what you choose to draw, make sure to give at least part of the picture credit.
This will help establish your own style and add credibility to your work! Credit does not necessarily have to be in the form of a comment or note, you could instead create an account on one of the many free stock photo sites out there and claim ownership of the pictures.

Now that you have your base shape, it’s time to start outlining your drawing. The first thing to do is pick an edge of your object that you would like to be lined. To do this, choose one of the lines in your drawing and hold down shift while selecting another line. Your picked line will get thicker, and the other thinned out.
Now press enter/return (Windows) or command + return (Mac) to create a new layer above the existing layers. Type in the name of your new layer “Line 1″ and hit save.
Continue doing this with all of the edges of your drawing until each has its own line. This process will take some time depending on how many details you have in your painting!
Once everything is done, merge all of your layers together by holding control and alt (or option) and clicking between them all. You can also click Merge Down at the bottom left corner of the workspace to quickly merge the top most layer into the next one.
Take your time to edit any colors or shapes if needed before moving onto the second step.

Starting with procreate is easy, all you need to do is start creating! There are two main ways to begin making art using pro create. You can either pick an existing item or make your own from scratch.
The first way is to choose an image that inspires you and edit it just slightly to produce your own piece. This is very common practice when editing pre-made pieces such as logos or pictures of still life objects.
Alternatively, you could draw your own illustration! Let us take this example again, by choosing one of our favorite items to rework – the beach ball dog.
We will be changing the color of the fur and adding some detailing to make it look more like a Labrador retriever.

The next step in creating your drawing is using the Pen Tool to create different shapes. You can use the Pen Tool to draw lines, squares, circles, ovals, and triangles. Let’s look at some examples!
Start by selecting an area of the canvas that you would like to place your new shape onto. Then, press down with the Pen Tool (you can hold it down for better control or drag it across the surface to get more movement).
Now choose either the square option, the circle option, or the line option to make your choice.
Square: Create a box by holding down both handles and moving up and then down. Repeat this process as many times as needed to cover the whole shape.
Circle: Hold down one handle and move outward away from the other handle until you have made a circle. Do this as many times as needed to cover the entire shape.
Line: Pick a starting position and then move upward to create a line. Keep going back and forth to create your desired width.
After you are done designing your shape, go ahead and release the button to take your pick! Your choices now are Save, Duplicate, Cut, and Merge. If you want to quickly duplicate something, click the little drop down menu and select “Duplicate current selection.

The next step in creating your drawing is using the Pencil Tool to add some texture and depth to your image. Add more detail by brushing across the surface of the skin with short, smooth strokes.
By adding textures and layers to your drawings, you are able to create three dimensionality which help make your images look more realistic.

As we learned, in pro color painting apps like Photoshop or Painter there is an option to create a new layer. You can do this by holding down shift while clicking on a brush tool then choosing Create New Layer from the drop down menu. This way you can easily add another layer under your drawing or editing current layers.
In some instances though, these programs may not have the best tools for making changes to certain parts of your image. For example, if you want to take away some lines, the app might not have one that works well. So instead, they offer an Erase Tool which allows you to quickly grab an area and delete it.
This is very helpful in cases where there are too many lines going on or areas that need to be completely deleted. The most common use case I see for this is taking away excess line work or small shapes such as circles or squares.

After you have completed all of the settings, it is time to render your drawing! This means taking your picture and exporting it as an art piece or web page element. There are many ways to do this, so feel free to explore!
Some good sources for learning how to Photoshop efficiently include The Balance Team, Kolor, and Adobe Systems.

When you are finished with your drawing, it is time to share your work! There are many ways to do this. You can save your art as an image or PDF, edit the settings in these files, then upload them onto a website or social media platform to display.
Some of the most popular sites where artists share their artwork include Pinterest, YouTube, and Facebook. Once uploaded, users get credit for using Copyright protected material so people can learn from yours and also use it as inspiration.
By sharing your illustration design online, you give other designers free access to your work and inspire new designs. People who would like to try out digital painting may even find some helpful tips. A great way to promote your artistic talent is by creating your own account on both Pinterest and Instagram!
These two websites offer beautiful intuitive tools to organize and present your creative works. Having a strong social media presence is one of the best ways to spread your artist name.
